My laptop won't automatically clone the desktop to my second monitor when I connect it via VGA. It did, but now it doesn't. I can get it setup and displaying multiple monitors but I cannot reset it back to automatically cloning the desktop when connected. Again multiple monitors funtions fine. 2nd monitor is connected properly great resolution just prefer the clone setup. Any help is appreciated. Thxs.

I have some problem, please can you help me. I have HP laptop (video card Mobile Intel (R) 945GM Express), is this compatible with multiple monitors view, as this option is unavailable in my slide show set up?

I've just installed dual monitor view using a geforce 7300 on an amd 64 athalon 3500, running on Windows XP sp1, and I've got a dilemma . When using programs such as aim (aol instant messenger) and internet explorer i have no problems, but when im doing something interactive like a video game such as Counter Strike on one monitor and aim on the 2nd monitor, my counter strike minmizes when i click on my aim window. Is there anything i can do to prevent it from minmizing ? Please help !

hmm.. this looks like an outdated post, but I'll ask anyway.. I have an msi radeon x300se, and two crt monitors, one of which is running on the dvi-vga transform thinige.. I can get images from both of them, but they both show the same image, clicking "extend desktop" just makes the screen flicker a bit and then it just goes back to not being checked / secondary screen being "grey." If I look in the device management thingie, it only shows one screen, and two screencards (there is only one, but there are two registered with the computer; one primary and one secondary). I've got the latest drivers, I tried that ati control utility, I tried third-party-drivers (omega something).. I think I've tried all I can think of right now... nothing helps.. I get two screens that seem to think they're the same (they also both show "1" if I click "identify").

I'm on win xp pro.

I'm not sure if anyone has encountered this problem...

I'm running a 64MB ATI Radeon 9000.

The thing is, using ATI's multi-screen function, the taskbar and all maximized programs span across both screens, making centered webpages (ie, Yahoo) really ugly. Plus, maximizing videos is nasty as well.

The funny thing is that Windows doesn't seem to recognize the fact that I have multiple screens plugged in. I don't see the checkbox of "Extend my Windows desktop to this monitor", nor do I see numbered grey boxes representing my 2 screens at the "Display Properties --> Settings" page. I can extend the desktop with the ATI drivers, but it considers it one 2560x1024 desktop, instead of two 1280x1024 desktops.

So I think my main problem is getting Windows 2000 itself to recognize that I have 2 monitors plugged in (one through the VGA plug, and one through the DVI plug)... Anyone have any insight on this?

I just purchased a second monitor but i already have fairly nice video card and do not want to buy an 100$ dual head card. What are the min-reqa for the second card? can it be low end due to the fact that i'm only using it for an paluet in adobe. will an 20$ 32mb card mess things up ?

Okay, now... I don't know what the problem is with my computer, but I'm using an ATI 9600 Series video card and was told that it could support multiplemonitor features. So I ran to the store, bought a monitor splitter and a cable and hooked it up. Now, my monitors cloned just like you said they would. But when I go to display settings > settings and try to enable the second monitor.... it wont enable. It will turn black and I'll hit apply but nothing will happen. It will just turn grey again. I've tried right clicking and attaching and that still didn't work. The windows troubleshoot couldn't help me, the ATI website couldn't help me.... I'm at a loss. I'm having the same problem as cebollo, Mr Seamonkey...

My nVidia software will allow me to switch between my analog TFT and my digital TFT (both the same make, but my GeForce 5600 has a VGA and DVI-D output, so I use one for each) but only recognises that a single monitor is present.

Device Manager and Display (Settings) on XP Pro also only display one...

Please persevere with this. nVidia fob off to the manufacturer (unlike ATI it seems...) but Sony haven't responded, neither have Microsoft...

I have an Intel P4 machine with a GeForce FX 5200 card (with S-VHS TV-out). I used to be able to connect my TV as a secondary screen and use overlay to watch videos on the TV.

I just reinstalled my Win XP and now I cannot do that anymore. After replacing the drivers, the cable, the connector, and even the card, I found out that XP actually recognizes my TV and I can swith between my TFT and TV without problems. The problem is that in 'Display Properties/Settings' I only have 1 single monitor where I used to have primary/secondary.

Is there a way to tell XP that I have both monitors on at the same time? The graphics driver has no problem with it. It won't let me force detection og TV because it's already detected and if I boot up with the monitor unplugged, XP uses my TV as primary device.

Hope someone can help me because it's really bugging me.

I have two computers. On with a dual monitor setup and the other with a single. I often use the dual monitor setup computer to access the single, but since it's only a single, when I view it on the double, I only get one monitors' worth of desktop. That's expected. However, I'm wondering if there's a way to trick the single setup computer into thinking it's got a second video card in it so that when I view it via remote desktop I can open it all the way and see two monitors' worth of desktop.

so a flight sim and multiple monitors.. (very cool, i did this with MS Combat Flight Sim)....

The main thing here is to get a video card that can display overlays on the secondary output (basically any newer geforce or radeon card..)..

the main prob in the past with dual monitor gaming was being able to display full screen on both...

i'd suggest checking out this place for more info, i believe they have a FAQ about mulitpile monitor gaming.

I've read all the multiple monitor posts from this thread, but I am still confused. I'm not a really techie person, but I need to buy video card to hook up additional montior (doing this as a surprise for my husband who loves Flight Sim).

So I finally talked him into getting us a new computer (got a Dell for about $1000) - before that he couldn't even play Flight Sim because we still had Windows 95, ugh.

Anyway, as a surprise, I went out and bought a second monitor because we were reading about how you can have that with Flight Sim (and with XP). I got a good deal (I think) on a monitor from Office Max (normally $140, on sale for like $80). But now my question is---how do I hook this up? I am guessing I need to buy another video card? I called Dell and they said I'd need a "dual" video card which would be about $100-$200. I'm trying to go for the cheapest card possible (as this is just a second monitor and won't be used all the time).

What's the best option for finding out what kind of card I need? Can I just walk into a store and easily find what I am looking for and install myself without too many hours of trying? I just am doing this by myself and I don't want to screw it up big time.

Any thoughts/comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

as for the taskbar quesiton...

windows won't extend the taskbar over... again.. you'll need a thirdparty program for such things...

like i've said before, i personally call Ultramon GOD as a multi-monitor utility.... it has a smart taskbar option that will add a taskbar to the other monitors and lets you show: windows on that screen in it, or all monitor windows.. and the wallpaper option.. drool.. lets you have two different wallpapers or one wallpaper spanned across the monitors.. plus theres the screensaver that lets you run two diffferent screensavers, a different one on each monitor, some limitatoins but pretty cool!

as for the lcd...
hmm...

i'm still a bit conufsed on a few things...

1. your video card has a dvi and crt outputs, correct?

ok.. so for somethings to try...

when you hook up the monitors, you have to reboot your pc with them plugged in adn turned on for windows to know they are there initially..

contact nvidia/your graphics card manufacturers tech support.. you might have a defective card or they might know some model specific tips....

hope that helps a bit more.. hehe..

Hi there,

I followed the directions to set up dual monitor successfully, but now I have a question. Eventhough the screen now extends to two monitors (side-by-side), the windows task bar does not. It is only found on the left monitor. Is there a way to extend the task bar to the right monitor so that when I open lots of windows I can have the taskbar buttons extend to the second monitor as well?

the lcd works when the crt is unplugged, but it defaults to the crt when that is plugged in aswell.

the panel does have dvi based settings but only when the crt is unplugged

ok....

have you been able to use the LCD byitself?

if not, try checking in your BIOS during startup to see if there's a DVI or LCD monitor option.

Also, does the Nvidia Control Panel have any DVI based settings?

im using a straight up dvi cable for the lcd, vga cable for the crt.
