Launch RegEdit (select Start > Run, type regedit and click OK) and browse to HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelDesktop

2. Find the string called AutoEndTasks. Right-click it, select Modify from the pop-up menu, and change the data value from 0 to 1. (If you can't find this string, create it by selecting Edit > New > String Value and set the data value to 1.)

3. Close RegEdit and reboot.

Re: Windows: How to Quit or Exit a Frozen, Locked-Up, Nonresponding Program | Windows | Tech-Recipes

Ctrl+Alt+Del is the same as Ctrl+Shift+Esc, NOT Ctrl+Alt+Esc juss thought Id share :-D

Re: Windows: How to Quit or Exit a Frozen, Locked-Up, Nonresponding Program | Windows | Tech-Recipes

Ctrl-Alt-Esc opened up Winamp for me lol.

Anyone know of a force quit tool for Windows?

Re: Windows: How to Quit or Exit a Frozen, Locked-Up, Nonresponding Program | Windows | Tech-Recipes

Odd...

ctlrl-alt-esc does nothing on my system.

By the way, welcome to tech-recipes!

Re: Windows: How to Quit or Exit a Frozen, Locked-Up, Nonresponding Program | Windows | Tech-Recipes

seeing how this is meant to help those with little knowledge of a computer... id mention that Ctrl, Alt, Esc is the better combination (wont make your computer restart)..... Lots of the time it just hangs there and nothing you can do will shut it down. I think we got this with the new stability of XP. Older Windows would close anything even if it caused system problems.
