If you are using IMAP and not the normal personal folders, just simply click on to your Inbox folder of the IMAP account and then go up t Tools and enable Auto Preview and viola!

Hi, thanks for the information, found it to be very useful. Do you know if there is away to apply this setting as default? Or to multiple folders at once? I much prefer the "Preview Unread Items" view but whenever I create a new subfolder within my inbox, I have to go through the process of adjusting the view over and over again.
