Wow, you guys are cold. To be fair, we'd need to read some of the critic's recipes to see how they compare. I bet that msman meant to add the recipes that you were looking for, but was discouraged by the flames. I think that small, focused recipes are great, install this, configure that.

msman, if you haven't been scared off and are still willing to share what you know, please add more recipes. If you do, we'll send you a Tech-Recipes t-shirt.

hahahahahahahaha... well thats one hell of a DNS server :lol: now that we have a DNS server installed what should we do with it?... here's what to do.... click start/Control Pannel/Add Remove programs/add remove windows components... select networking services (please be sure not to click on the tick along side it :P )... now deselect the check box next to DNS... click ok till u come out... restart the computer... now u DON'T have a DNS server hahahahahahaha...

Does anyone know where I can get good information on DNS.
I am running a windows server 2003 with many domains on it.
I will be running mail, web and web mail services.
I will have a single ip address until I can get a second server up
and running .My ISP is hosting my DNS Pointing from my registrar
backup MX Mail.domain www.domain ftp.domain, & .domain

The kind of information I am looking for is like this.(I have searched everywhere)

For each domain I have I have these records (do I need a record for the name of the computer as well and should that record have mail ns and everything else listed below.

FORWARD LOOKUP ZONES.

Start of Authority (SOA) Domain,hostmaster < should the domain be the name of the computer? since the computer has a .local host name. like IBM.LOCAL

Name server. (NS) < should this point to the name of the computer, or the primary domain on the server like IBM.COM not the .LOCAL

Mail Host (A) < my path is mail.myprimarydomain.XX
mail Mail Exchanger (MX) <my setting is [10] mail.myprimarydomain.XX
Mail works great. however when i do the DNS Report I could get better results.

computername Host (A) 192.168.0.200 <local ip address (should all my address point to the local or to the main ip since i only have 1 ip. If I choose not to use the local address do I even need to have the computer name listed in DNS

www Host (A) 192.168.0.200 < I have seen this change to .0.0
losing the .200 (im using headers for my web and my ftp and web work fine)

REVERSE LOOKUP ZONES

(same as parent folder) Start of Authority(SOA computername.computername.,hostmaster.computername
(same as parent folder) Name Server (NS) computername.computername.

i also have one for eachdomain with the path. domain.computername.
Is this all i need in reverse and what can i do to clean up my DNS. if someone knows where I can get help that would be great.

this result of windows 2003 dns is a joke. This tells nothing about it. We know it is there or we wouldn't be asking about it.
