I've done everything suggestd and have even went as far as running system restore. I still get the same problem. The only thing new that I've added to my computer is the XP service package 2. Would this have anything to do with pictures only being forced to save as bitmaps? I need help please. Thanks.

If all else fails move the temp folder in internet options to C:Temp

until i have to do this every day... Microsoft need to fix this its annoying as hell

ive tried many times, to clean my temporary internet files, ive uninstalled all the downloaded program files, even if they didnt say "unknown" this still did not help, but if i goto save an image and save the title as "untitled.jpg" it saves as .jpg which is odd, 'cause i can only save in .bmp, or so the selection box says, but needless to say, this problem is very aggrevating and the only way can see to fix it, is result of moving to another browser such as opera.

In I.E. go to tools and select Internet Options. Click on the Advanced tab and under the Security heading, close to the bottom, uncheck the box next to "Do not save encrypted pages to disk", click ok and the problem is solved. :)

nope. doesnt work.

im the one who posted before you, and i did what you said. and nope. they still save in .bmp i also found something weird, when i right-click and image and goto properties, the size, and type of the image says "Not Available" so something is definetly wrong some where.

Here it is 2009 and still this problem has not been solved. I have done everything that has been suggested here and on Microsoft Help & Support as well as some suggestions from individuals and nothing has solved this problem . This was not happening when I first started using IE6 Windows XPSP2. Could it be that a MS update caused the problem? I have always installed them.

Hi,

From the official Microsoft Page:

Method 1
Delete the temporary Internet files. To do so, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the General tab, and then click the Delete Files button.

Note To locate the Temporary Internet Files folder, click Options on the Tools menu, click the General tab, and then click Settings. The current location appears in the Settings dialog box.

Method 2
To work around the problem, click Tools, click Internet Options, click the Advanced tab, click to clear the Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box, click View, and then click Refresh. The Do not save encrypted pages to disk check box is under the Security section.
Note: so as Guest/Anonymous suggested four years ago but after the unchecking you need to refresh (View... Refresh or F5)

This worked for me! Good luck!
