  • Frustrated · 4 years ago
Update: They've changed the URL slightly. It's now http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standal...

The ".html" is new. You've got to search aroud for it.

    thanks for the standalone link.
"quicktime without itunes" your article is number 1!... nice.

    thanks very useful
  • Vice · 4 years ago
Thanks so much. It is completely unnecessary and annoying to bundle those two together. Shamefully, they change the link as well. Silly. Thanks for the link!

Thank You. It appears as though Apple is following Microsofts lead in forcing people to use their apps.
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
    Great link, thanks!

People complain about the aggressivity of Microsoft marketing it's own software; Quicktime (with Itunes, and the fact that you NEED Quicktime to see Mov. files) are good examples that Apple managed to do just as bad, or even worse.
  • Helix · 4 years ago
    Dude,

I hate iTunes and I couldn't find the link for the standalone...until I read your post...

    thanks a bunch.

Superb. Thanks for the link. I'm downloading right now. Try to force to download itunes. What a bunch of apple jerks.

Thanks for the link. I was in the same position and your post pointed the way to what I needed.

Thanks for posting the link. It's a disgrace that they forcefeed the iTunes on you. It even starts a stupid resource eating iPodService in XP and disabling it, results in error messages in the system log.
  • anonymous coward · 4 years ago
just the link I was looking for. I hope Apple reads the continously growing list of thanks here!
  • apple is shit · 4 years ago
fucking morons. I downloaded it a while ago without itunes, just had to format and found it again here. You rock.
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
Thanks a million! I really strongly dislike Itunes, and being forced to install it not only goes against everything that I believe in , but also everything that Apple used to stand for...
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
Itunes sucks, apple sucks and quicktime sucks. I wouldn't even download it if .mov files weren't all over the place
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
THANKS MAN!!! Apple blows, they should just release the codec so we don't have to download this junk :( thanks for letting us not get iTunes :D
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
If you try that link, the download is even LARGER than the file with iTunes.
They are really trying to shove it down your throats.

I bit the bullet and installed it. It looks really nice, but I don't think I'll use it just BECAUSE of the way they forced me to get it.

I am sure there are other quicktime players around that will open MOV files.

Great! Thanks for this link :D And even better, we can write a comment without registration.

Apple is bad, they know that. Now they try bundle QuickTime with iTunes as Evil plans.

QT is the most annoying application beside Java. It would be mutch better to watch Movies and Trailers with Windows Media Player.

btw, use QuickTime only for Trailers. The ugly trailer application

    I JUST WANT QUICKTIME!!!
  • noeliam · 4 years ago
thanks a load, everyone should be told about this
  • Winnson · 4 years ago
I'm going to try the quicktime alternative first, just because it's such a pain that they insist on packaging it. Big thanks for this.
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
    Davak, you're a genius. Thanks a million!
  • blah · 4 years ago
so much for that link. I am going to try the alternative again, maybe this time it will include support for .mid files. :!:
Why bother with qt at all? because firefox uses it and only it to play embedded sounds. thanks a lot mozilla.

When I'm on an MP3 blog and click on an MP3, it loads in a new browser in quicktime. If I try to save the MP3 and then transfer it into my iTunes, it won't work. It'll show up in my playlist, but the time will be zero and it will just skip to the next track. Anyone have any ideas of how to remedy this? E-mail me at ksoce42@aol.com

You are a godsend Thank you. Itunes was making my musicmatch and ipod all wacked out. Thanks again
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
Nice job.Apple sucks with this style of marketing ....
  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
If Microsoft did this it would be considered bundling and would be in the courts.
  • gatezone · 4 years ago
Thanks to you and google I saved time. It's one thing to make it a choice but to bury the standalone download like this is the MS in Apple coming to the surface... and without the usual design 'sheen.'

  • Anonymous · 4 years ago
totally cool, thanks for posting this article. apple should get a clue that they are pissing off their uses and stop it.

    Hey thanks you guys..

its verry irritating to HAVE to have iTunes and assorted crap so that u can play your .MOV files..
This is just what i needed !
    Thanks

Didnt expect such Microsoft-type practices from apple tho..
    Sad.

    Arachnic.

PS. There are codecs available which do play most, if not all (i dunno why not) .Mov files in WMP (10, which i use, tho should work in 9 too)..
  • Noone666 · 3 years ago
Thanks for this - Apple sucks! What a bunch of bastards!
    Thank you for the link!

I need to buy an iPod for my daughter. I thought I would br forced to use iTunes with it. Is that not true?
Can I load the iPod with songs using Windows Media Player for example?
  • davak · 3 years ago
There are ways around it. I believe there are winamp plugins for example that do the same thing as itunes. Actually, I believe the latest version of winamp does it even without a plug-in!

However, I have to ask "why?"

iTunes isn't for everybody, but it's actually a pretty good program--especially if you have an iPod. I think it's wrong for apple to try to force it on everybody who uses quicktime. But for iPod users, it's pretty slick.
  • Anonymous · 3 years ago
    Thank you, that makes sense.
  • Anonymous · 3 years ago
Seems they changed the url again, but a quick google search does the trick: http://www.apple.com/au/quicktime/download/stan...

Nice one, I was looking for quicktime all over the place without iTunes and here it is. Thanks for posting this on your website!
  • Kim · 10 months ago
I finally gave up and downloaded itunes with it. I just hope I can uninstall itunes later. I don't even like having it on my computer.
  • ben bon · 9 months ago
You could also download Media Player Classic from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Media_Playe... This program includes most codecs such as QuickTime and DIVX and will play most DVD's too. I found that its best to use genuine QT for embedded vids .
  • BO · 9 months ago
Both links take you to the same place for QT and iTunes???
  • Peter · 9 months ago
    From 1-800-myapple:

this worked for me just now.

WOW they removed the link for the stand alone version... i want to boycott apple now
  • Josh · 9 months ago
Hey I found this useful post of yours a little late, and both links were dead, but I found this one and am installing a standalone player now, here's the link I found http://quicktime.en.softonic.com/.

    Free and simple. Quicktime 7.60.92.0
  • Dlee · 9 months ago
I went to both links and was directed to the download WITH iTunes - there is a worm in my apple.
  • qdideas · 8 months ago

Why do I need Quicktime for Itunes? Why won't it run without it? My laptop was doing a clean up and it deleted my Quicktime, so now my Itunes doesn't run. I lost over 500 songs!! Anyone help me??
  • Phred · 2 months ago
With all the Alternatives [sic] to Quicktime why bother with QT?
Actually, I was given a Shuffle so I need to opposite - iTunes without QT, but now A99le has turned the .msi installer into an exe so I can't clear QT out using Orca beforehand.
Anyone know how to surgically modify the iTunes install?
  • thestonecutttter · 2 months ago
i agree totally. its 50meg diference in installation file size for a kick off. and your only going to uninstal itunes after so its pointless. cheers davek.

I put my mother-in-law on a Mac because it's much simpler for her to use... but I wish Apple would make it easier for me to support her! Sometimes I'm not sure it's worth the effort. She's on dial-up, so we have to load up a stick with all the stand-alone installer updates before going to visit.
