    What keeps this code from working? I click on your example of the aim and nothing. I even went through AOL's wizard, again no action. Are there any caveats when using this to engage an IM session from the webpage?

    You just have to have AIM installed.

    For people in the forums, the original hyperlinks sometimes get screwy when viewing the comments. The URL above will take you back to the original recipe for trying the codes.

    Too funny... I was just testing it with my trillian client as well.

    I agree that trillian ignores the aim codes. (I wonder why...)

    My next question is, and this is probably the wrong forum, but have you seen any where a way to get the online status for MSN Messenger with out using a service?

    I have an answer to my first question of Trillian... It appears that Trillian's new release has a flag in the configuration area. To use AIM linked by a website with Trillian, this version must be installed AND have the check box checked to allow Trillian to be the AIM receiver from a link.

    The answer to my last question is... Yes, there is a way to do the same linking with MSN... After about 5 hours of searching, I found it... these people figured it out, just view the source of this link.

    Sweet. I found the setting in my configuration of trillian, but it was already selected. Even with this enabled, trillian seems to be ignoring the aol: codes.

    Thanks for the msn information. I (or somebody) needs to crank that into a recipe soon <hint, hint> :)

    Thanks for the posts... I love seeing the forums get more active.

    I have been really disappointed that there are not more cool things to do with IM clients.

    hi im in the aim scene and there are plenty of undiscovered AIM html commands... such as aim:Prefs?Preftype=Privacy <-- that would open up the privacy settings in AIM... me and some other people are working on finding a command that can maybe block everyone, and using the other pref commands.. so their AIM would be changed without them knowing it..

    Hello.
    I need to know what commands open AIM from a button in a form instead of hyperlinks.
    <form><input type=button onclick="location.href='aim:goIM?screenname=somebody'"></form>

    this code gives good performance on netscape6 or higher but gives error with netscape 4.5.

    do you know how to solve this problem?

    You might need to add something to get rid off spaces in name and msg, btu that is the basice idea.

    thank you, this is an useful idea for an aim form, but it doesn't solve the problem for AIM's launch by a form with netscape 4.5.

    aim:addbuddy will add a buddy!
    use ?screename=name

    so for example to add me to the group buddies it would be <a href="aim:addbuddy?screename=bjcomputerfreak&group=buddies">add meadd me

    type:
    <!--YOUR MESSAGE HERE-->
    then cut that onto your clipboard, right click and select "Paste Plaintext".
    If there is no typing following it, such as a space or a character, then </BODY></HTML> will appear directly following your message after someone clicks and hits F2.
    Putting this as the last line in your away message without any character following it will cause the bar that seperates your away message from your profile (this bar is seen by Windows users) to disappear.

    Tried doing that- nothing worked.

    Here's my steps:

    typed : <!--My Message-->

    Cut it from the profile

    Pasted it as plain text

    nothing showed up.

    What do I need to do?

    I tried to change the text from another person's thing. Didn't work.

    this is for Instant messaging someone...
    Yahoo!

    Of course...you replace SCREENNAME with your screen name. I got this from my sister, she said it works.

    do the <!--Message--> thing in ur pro, then copy it & delete it. make 2 stars & put the typey thing in between. Then, right click and select paste plaintext. Press F2 a lot its fun :twisted: <font color="red"></font>

    (obviously u put whatever your message is in) important!!! leave the <'s and the -'s and the exclamation point in!!! they're the only way this will work!!
    copy and paste that into your AIM profile.
    type click between the stars and press f2 after it.
    that should work

    There also another problem that messes up the Hidden Message thing from working, YOU HAV to hav Aim 4.7 installed or it wont work right. any newer version after 4.7 wont work.

    Download Aim 4.7 from this site: http://oldversion.com/program.php?n=aim

    Then once u hav the Aim 4.7 installed open Notepad dont use microsoft word!!! THen type in *<!!-- Your MEssage --!!>* (Obiously u would put wat u want to were it says YOur Message) Now copy the whole thing and paste it into ur Profile or Away Message. Be sure to include instructions for ur friends: EX. Click on the Stars and press F2 to reveal MY Away message. THis works perfect if u follow every step.

    You have to use the javascript: prefix before the code location.href=etcetc

    did ne one figure out the code for sign offs on aim yet? who cares about the message in the stars, and do u know the stars have nothing to do with the code, u could have like fu(press f2)ck but the stars are easier, ne help with the sign off would be good though

    alright so i figured it out for everyone,

    if you type [*<!--Your Message Here-->*] that into note pad copy it and then paste it into your profile it works you can't type it into your profile you need to type it somewhere and then paste it in and it works

    if you have aim, you can link a screen name. go to "My AIM" then click "Manage Linked Screen Names..." Click "Link/Unlink Screen Names" then you can add your other screen names.

    first copy this into your profile: -[ words ]- Then put your cursor on the s, pressing backspace (5) times, then type your secret message, "make sure it's short." then press F2 one time! then click finished... it should work now..

    you go to word type in <!--your message--> copy it and paste it in your profile or an instant message and make sure it doesnt have an aarow for --> and not a line for --

    You may be wondering how to do the click between the stars and push F2 trick. it's very easy once you get to know it.

    3.copy paste what you've done wherever you want to place it, but make sure before you copy it you make [**] and copy it between the stars.
    4. get rid of any remaining !'s -'s and <'s
    5. highlight your text, and hit F2

    Is there a way that i can link people to a website and have these launch automatically with out them clicking on AIM code link?

    Also is there a way to send a message to everyone on my buddy list?

    I tried the add buddy and IM code. The add buddy always gave me invalid parameters when I clicked on it and the IM code never had a screename to send to. But the links I set up were to add and IM a screename I had linked to the one I clicked on the codes with, so is it possible that the codes don't work if two screenames are linked? Can someone please confirm this for me...

    I used the code aim:goim?screenname=SCREENNAME&message=MESSAGE
    to send messages to people. Is there anything i can add to the code so I don't have to physically then press the send button in order to send it?

    I don't think so... I've never seen something like that. Are you planning to have a link in your profile to send death threats to the white house or something?

    to make the "click between the stars and press f2" thing, just follow these steps
    1.open notepad
    2. type <!-- your message -->
    (actually type your message)
    3.in your profile type [*
    4.then copy/paste the whole thing from notepad after the [*
    (no space between)
    5.after your message, type *] click between the stars and press f2
    6.press F2 and close it
    7. you're done

    EXAMPLE:
    1.open notepad
    2. <!-- hello -->
    3. [*
    4. [*hello
    5. [*hello *] click between the stars and press F2
    6.[**] click between the stars and press F2
    7. im done

    mmk,

    to d othe f2 trick you need to go into notepad, type <!-- your message here -->

    make sure you have spaces or stars around it other wise it will not work.

    so it would look like *<!-- blah -->*

    there you go

    well i looked at this entire page
    i saw how to set up codes for chat, IM and chatroom.
    but never didi see anything to do with inserting a hyperlink i an email that s done by aim.
    aim is graphically a rip off and shouldnt even be used at all. im looking for a way to not use it.

    Great information. I found out that it supports HTML, so I could add a carriage return by using the line break tag. For instance:

    aim:goim?screenname=SCREENNAME&message=hello
